college edge By Julie Bruner December SENIORS -Get
financial aid forms from your counselor’s office, or go online to
fafsa.ed.gov
and download the forms. These may not be submitted until after January
1. However, with your parents, you can start working on the forms in
order to be prepared. -If you
applied Early Decision, you may be hearing from your college by
mid-December. Make sure to have other college applications ready to go,
just in case. -Ask your school to send your credentials to your
colleges well before the holiday vacation. High schools are CLOSED, and
counselors will not be available to send your credentials during break.
Plan accordingly. -Catch up
with alums who are coming back to visit. Find out how they like their
colleges. -Buy holiday presents. Thank your teachers and counselor.
JUNIORS -Watch for
the return of your PSAT scores. Use your results to help you prepare for
the SAT. -The
deadline to register for the January 26 SAT is December 26. Talk to your
counselor to see if you are ready. -Are your
classes under control before vacation? If not, then plan on this time to
catch up with your work. -Get your
holiday shopping done. Remember to thank your teachers. Julie Bruner, M.Ed., is the author of “Getting My Tail Into College,” a college planner for high school juniors and seniors.
