college edge By Julie Bruner
FEBRUARY
Seniors in High School
-Check out scholarships, either online or through your college
counseling office.
-Send your colleges any updated information that will strengthen your
file.
-If your college requires interviews and you haven’t heard anything,
call the admissions office.
-Put into motion possible college visits during spring break in order to
help you make your final decision.
Juniors in High School
-If you took the January 26 SAT test, you should receive your scores
soon. Decide if you should take a test preparation class before the May
SAT test. If you did not take the January test, register to take the
March 1 SAT.
-Talk to your counselor about a realistic college list.
-Plan to visit those colleges that interest you. Spring break is the
optimum time. Students are still in class, and you won’t miss school
days. To prepare for your visits, go to local colleges and their
information sessions for interested students to see how the process
works. Use these sessions as a “guinea pig” to prep for your actual
college tours.
-Call the admissions office of each college (get this information from
the school’s website) to see how their visits and tours work. How
involved you get in a visit depends on your interest in the college.
