college edge By Julie Bruner

Seniors in High School
- Mail in or submit your college applications by the deadlines.
- For colleges that have rolling admissions, go ahead and send in your
applications for consideration. Their spaces fill up and the longer you
wait, the harder it could be for you to get accepted.
- Help your parents/guardians submit the FAFSA for financial aid. Go to
www.fafsa.ed.gov
for more information.
- Study for exams if you are on a semester system. Your semester grades
will be scrutinized by your colleges, so do well and take them
seriously.
- Give your counselor your mid-year forms for your colleges so that he
or she can submit your first semester grades. These forms are part of
your application.
Juniors in High School
- Does your school have a special college program for juniors? Make
sure you attend and take the process seriously.
- Talk to your counselor and set up a meeting to discuss your college
possibilities, transcript, testing calendar and teacher recommendations.
Make sure to include your parents. (I promise it will make things easier
for everyone, including you, in the long run.)
- Study for exams if you are on a semester system.
- Use
www.collegeboard.com or
www.princetonreview.com to start the college search process.
- Study for the January 26 SAT Reasoning Test.
