college edge By Julie Bruner
March
Seniors in High School
-Apply for summer jobs or internships.
- Prepare to hear from your colleges.
- Finalize college visit plans during spring break to determine your
choice.
-Let counselors and teachers know your decisions.
- Keep working on your grades. This shows the colleges that you work to
the end and will help support your applications if you get waitlisted.
- Are you up to date for graduation?
Juniors in High School
- Study for the SAT and/or ACT tests. Pull out your Algebra I, II and
Geometry books and notes to review. Go online and take practice tests.
Make sure your calculator has working batteries.
- Register for the April and May SAT or ACT tests.
- Are you taking any AP exams? Make sure your school has you properly
registered.
- Talk to your counselor about a realistic college list if you have not
done so already.
- Finalize college visit plans during spring break.
- Start thinking about who you will ask to write your college
recommendation letters. Colleges prefer to see two teachers from your
junior year write these letters: one from math or science and one from
the humanities.
- Check out summer opportunities such as employment, internships and/or
community service.
