first thoughts
Angela Lehman-Rios
I can’t say I’ve ever changed diapers here at Richmond Parents
Monthly, but I have stayed up late with it, taken it to Mommy-and-me
events and emailed my relatives photos of it. The magazine, truly, is
kind of like my children (though thankfully, not prone to spill juice).
That’s why I’m so happy to announce that Richmond Parents Monthly has
been honored by Parenting Publications of America for our work.
PPA is a national association of more than 120 local parenting
publications. Its annual contest recognizes excellence in writing and
design. For the 2007 contest, PPA received 1,249 entries. Judging was
coordinated by staff at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
Our awards are listed below.
In addition, I’m proud to say that the Virginia Press Association
awarded our previous RPM KidSpin writer, Joe Cates, a first prize for
critical writing in 2007. Whitney Lou continues the good work every
month.
Of course, as much as you want your kid to get a good report card, in
the long run, you’re more interested in his or her ability to find a
fulfilling job. That’s where you come in, dear readers. You’re our
employers, so to speak, and you hire us every time you pick up our
magazine. Thanks for the job!
